Do Money Woes Dampen The Holidays? Kate Let Them Off Easy

Hello Gosselin fans! I hope you guys had a wonderful Christmas and having a Happy Hanukkah and lets not forget Kwanzaa and Ramadan. I hope I didn't forget anyone! We had such a great Holiday this year. Having our wonderful baby and happy family we are so appreciative. It was such a joy seeing the kids open up their mounds of gifts. What was NOT a joy however was getting our credit card bill the very next day. There's nothing that shocks the Holiday's right out of you than seeing how crazy you were last month thinking there was an never ending well of gold in your backyard. I must have been on some serious crack last month. Usually people don't feel the pinch until January. I don't understand why the words "recession" didn't even enter my mind. I am truly scared to show this to my husband, I feel like I'm back in elementary school and giving my parents my report card that I tried to forge one year. I'm not kidding.

In order to dull the pain I was so happy to see my favorite Holiday movie on TV tonight. Every year I watch "The Family Man" with Nicholas Cage and I am truly a better person after watching it. It made me feel like whatever happens there's always tomorrow and we should appreciate what we have now. If you have never seen this movie, now is the time. Please look out for it on TV or rent it. "I'm going back to the mother ship now..."

Kate Tries To Remain Calm as The Camera's Are Rolling On Her Home Makeover

A few people had sent me this site and told me to take a look at it. I just didn't know what to say. Its the companies site that re-did Jon & Kate's first home. You know how all the haters thought Kate was such a horrible person for not being appreciate of the free re-model on their interior? Well let me tell you, if anyone had did this horrible scary stuff to my nursery after me coming home with a baby being all hormonal I would have shot them. I don't care how appreciative I should be, there would be NO way I would allow them to leave regardless of the decent re-do of the living room. Now this is just me and my opinion only. But I am SO glad that this site is now making the rounds. Because the comments are amazing. Most people now can totally understand why Kate was upset. And she didn't even say to them how she really felt! Now, this totally reminds me of this Trading Spaces episode I saw when crazy Hildy glues hay YES HAY to a woman's walls for a country themed living room. Remember? The woman calmly said "uhh I hope this is a joke and you guys are cleaning this up". Yeah, Kate was kind. check out this company called "Faux Interiors". Free sometimes isn't what its cracked up to be.

Glad to see that you had a great Holiday this year. Don't worry about the credit card bill until Jan. They are not suppose to send it to you during the actual Holiday Season (that should be made a law, don't you think?).

I agree with you on the pictures. I would have been very upset. I read somewhere that Kate should have just said thank you and made changes after the fact. Well I think that bringing home six newborns would be priority and she would not have been able to really deal with making changes.

Hope you have a relaxing weekend and worry about the bill next month.

Ok ..I almost puked when I saw that sink it reminded me of that lady who does one-stroke painting on PBS..Holy CRAP! Question though..on the TLC 1st ever special they show the Gosselins at House #1 I didn't see any of that horrifying stuff in their house? Did that happen after..I am confused! The worst Trading Spaces I ever saw next to the Hay.. was the one where Hildy made a space theme kids room complete with newspaper as top to bottom wall paper!

I laughed at the credit card thing... because I think your totally not alone. I have been a repeat offender of exactly what you mentioned! Going strong since 01 when will I learn? I have paperless statements I learned the hard way a long time ago that some things are best left unsaid ..or found somewhere under my bra pile.

The Family Man is a staple in our DVD collection, very sweet movie , we also love Elf, and The Polar Express.

Yeah, I would have been horrified. I read Multiple Blessings and she talks about what else was going on when she saw the house. I would also have been completely horrified after seeing the twins rooms. The only thing I liked was the living room. Wow.

I have never seen those pictures of the first house and I freaked out and I am not a new mom!!! I hated Hilde on Trading Spaces. She loved to do stupid things and claim that her normal clients loved it. Doubt. The hay was the worst. Fake flowers stapled all over a bathroom (hello - fungus and mold growth!), ugly wine labels in the kitchen. If she showed up in my house, it would be justifiable homicide!

I have to tell you guys. When that show was really popular my neighbor and friend was begging me to apply for us to be on the show. I was so scared that she would get Hildy I refused to apply! I actually REMEMBER the top-to-bottom wallpaper space themed room. But it will never be as bad as the look on that woman's face when she saw the wall-to-wall HAY!

I would have LOVED to see Kate's face on that makeover, but it was all done after the hour special and before the weekly series. I don't care how appreciate you need to be, I would have asked whether they would be painting over that scary Humpty Dumpty...

Baby Mama, I refused to sign up with my friend as I just KNEW I would have gotten Hilde. I could not take the chance that I would either have her in my house, or I would have to work with her at my friend's house and have to fight her for everything. I am sure we were not the only ones with that fear

Hi all. I read here all the time, but have only commented once before. My dear hubby bought me the new book for Christmas, and I read it already! It was really good, but sad in some ways, because I felt like Kate was having to explain herself with all of the attacks on her. I am so glad you posted that link, because when reading the book about her home makeover, I was wishing I could see it myself... oh. my. goodness. That was so hideous. I know that that type of decor is just perfect for some people's taste, but definitely not the majority. That was just CRAZY stuff. I would have cried, too. I love the Duggers. Me and my husband are Christians, and watching them inspires us in many ways. Ok, enough rambling, love the website!!

Baby Mama, I know I am a couple of weeks behind on my question, but I saw where there was big drama about a poster LittleMissSunshine, but I could never find out what happened. Did she post something here? I could never find out...

The twins room looked like something on HBO After Dark. Who knew that a three years old child's room could look so much like a like a bordello?

Yeah, I can't blame Kate for being upset! The living room and master bedroom were okay, but the bathroom and kid's rooms? Good god, pass the sunglasses! Those colors do not say "peaceful" to me.

Holy cow! Did they think to interview Kate before the remodel and find out she has really sedate tastes??? Flowers on a white background on the bathroom sink? And the nursery walls were horrifying! They somehow made it look like cinder block (i.e., think prison walls?)

Thanks for talking about Family Man, which I didn't know about and will definitely have to rent (wish I had known about it before Christmas!) Elf is a huge favorite in our house and so are Eloise's Christmas (I have two girls) and A Christmas Story.

Again, MoreCowbell, thanks for making me laugh every time I see your username!

I love Family Man..as well as Nicholas Cage...yum. lol. I remember one of his first roles. It was in Valley Girl. Love that movie - although not a holiday themed movie.

And Wow. Could you imagine trying to bring 6 babies home (with all the uncertainties there) and thinking you had to try to find time to re-do the nursery before you could do so? I woulda had a "come apart", as my grandmother called it. For sure. A bordello (yes MoreCowbell, that is what it looked like!) and that hideous Humpty Dumpty. I suppose there would be some people that would like that style. Seems like the majority doesn't.

Thanks for showing us that link. Wonder if that place is still in business?

For the most part, the decorations were typical of the "low-budget home renovation show", and I have no idea whose brilliant idea it was to paint the bathroom sink like that. The flowers on the walls would have been ok in a kids' bathroom, but that sink would have been hideous even in a preschool. Mady & Cara's room looked cute, except the curtain thing over the doorway, and the bedding (which I believe was donated) was a little too mature for their age.

I think the important thing to remember is that the show wasn't just about the decoration. They tried to renovate the small home to make more room for everyone. They changed the garage into the master bedroom, and I didn't think it looked too bad- except the ginormeous california-king sized bed taking up the whole space. (Ok, so I'm jealous because I want one. We still haven't upgraded from a double :)

As far as the nursery goes, I have mixed feelings. On one hand I think, oh my kids would have thought that was cute, but I can also imagine that some kids might think that it was scary. Kinda like some kids are afraid of clowns, and other kids adore them.

It's pretty obvious after watching "Surviving Sextuplets and Twins" that they changed it all almost immediately. The nursery was pretty bare, and they showed the bathroom after Alexis had her "accident" and Kate bathed her, and I didn't see any of those scary plastic Wizard of Oz flowers anywhere.

OMG!!!!! I would have strangled them. The only room that was good was the Living Room. The kid's rooms were terrible. I would have reacted the same way. I remember reading on the troll sites about how ungrateful Kate was. Well I wonder if they ever saw the pictures and if they actually like it or if it is just a reason to whine.

As for Hildy, she is an idiot. I remember when she used cut up cardboard boxes as wallpaper for a home that was about a year old. When we built our house, our neighbours were already approved for Trading Spaces. Their friends next door backed out, and they approuched us about a week after we moved in. As you can imagine, I SAID NO NO NO. There were a few on Trading spaces I would have been afraid of.

I wonder if Jon and Kate had to pay to change the decor after the "make over"? What a shame! I know that many people probably put a lot of time and effort into making the Gosselins' house nice for them. Unfortunately, it is clear that the designers did not communicate their "visions" with the Gosselins.

All I can say is OMG!!! I would have had a heart attack if I walked into my house to that!!! Every single room was UGLY!

I recently read the book and then found the pictures online of the home renovation. I was amazed at how bad the decorating was done. I was overwhelmed. Sometimes designers have no clue when it comes to kids rooms. Who in the world paints a sink for little girls? If all of the painting was on a mirror or the wall that would be one thing. I agree the garage to master bedroom was nice as well as the living room. I am one of those people who do not like clowns and I would never put up giant images like that in our nursery. Just plain Scary! I would have been a mess if I would have walked back into that mess.

Did the Gosselin's sell the house as is after the home makeover? Did they know they were losing a garage to a bedroom?
