Jon & Kate Plus Sustainabilit-eight, Earth Day Network, Boy's Day Out

Hello Gosselin Fans How was your EARTH DAY? There was a big response to the "Earth Day" Jon & Kate episode. The emails that I received were overwhelming, it really seemed people were excited about seeing a new show. What wasn't exciting was the feeling that most were hoping that this show was going to be some sort of new Epiphany of sorts. New happy Kate, excitement over going green. Making you feel like running around the house shutting lights, recycling and hitting the roof to do some solar panels. One of the biggest gripes was that it didn't really get us pumped to save the world. Or at least really do some soul searching for Earth Day.

I was kinda confused that so many expected so much from the show. There were so many negative comments centered around Kate using Styrofoam cups (I thought they were paper?) and the paper she used, it was muddling the whole point of the show. Why does this family have to be so perfect in peoples eyes! I found the show very helpful and insightful. But more had to do with Kate's "less than stellar" enthusiasm for helping the environment. But as Earth Day once again comes and goes once again on its 39th anniversary, how much of us will truly retain any of the excitement ourselves?

Jon & Kate Plus Sustainabilit-eight

This article from Beliefnet.com talked about how the episode had many helpful tips. One on them was wishing Kate would get more excited about the Earth (lol):

"In between installing solar panels for electricity, solar thermal panels to heat the gallons of hot water they use for laundry and bathing, and LCD lighting to conserve energy, Steve and crew elaborated on the natural resources needed to maintain a family the size of the Gosselins, and how to reduce their carbon footprint. I'm glad that Discovery Communications decided to do this show, but I just wish that Kate had been more excited about it. So she has some emotional baggage from her father never completing home repair projects, but try to show a little enthusiasm about helping the environment so that those of us at home might be inspired to go green like the Gosselins."

Happy Earth Day!

In honor of Earth Day I wanted to have some relating sites if you feel the need to go GREEN. Earth Day Network will tell you all you need to know.. Feel the need to watch it in a movie? Check out Disney Nature's new movie EARTH.

I understand why Kate was not as excited in this last episodes. She mentioned how she has fears over major home projects because of her childhood. Personally, I think her sharing this was a HUGE step for Kate. She is pretty tight lipped about their family/past.

Also, even though Solar and Thermal Panels are very cool, the installation was certainly more up Jon's alley then Kate's. Jon was not all giddy with the Sarah Snow visit, but Kate was. Why is it SO wrong that Kate was not all giddy with Solar Panels, but Jon really seemed to be enjoying himself? Kate participated in this episode in HER way, baking, thinking about the financial part of it etc. Jon participated in HIS way, actual installation etc.

I also understand why people might of thought that Kate's reaction would of been slightly different. She certainly likes to talk about eating organic, buying food locally, recycling etc. All things that would lead someone to "think" that her reaction to the installation of Solar Panels etc might be more excitable. So, if you were assuming this, I can see how one would be disappointed. I admit that I was a "tad" surprised myself.

See that's the thing. I would have figured people would be discussing more all that they were doing in honor of Earth Day. Instead its about ungrateful because shes not appreciate of solar panels. I wanted to do one more post about this issue because I felt the need to not just discard the day and remember the purpose: to change something in our daily lives continually to help save the planet....

My mindset was never about going green. But I have consciously done little things to say I did my part. I hope all that reads this could do it as well ;) And not be so busy all up in Kate's personality....

Kate's lack of enthusiasm for going green was a good indicator of how much more educating has to be done for people to understand that the problem is BIG and it's not going away.

If anyone saw the opening of Oprah's Earth Day show they will know what I mean (our oceans are filled with garbage which is choking the life therein).
It really seemed like a TLC gimmick to do a green episode: they use paper plates and disposable water bottles, she does zillions of loads of hot water laundry, jon drives a diesel tractor around for fun...the list is endless. They are good parents in my eyes but not green whatsoever.

I wish I could afford those solar panels.

On a side note, my mother saw the Gosselin Green episode first and thought Kate seemed really rude. That was not my impression. I thought she was cheeky but FLIRTY. I honestly think she had chemistry with Steve and didn't know what to do with it.

BabyMama,
I couldn't agree with you more!
I think the Gosselins do a lot in the way of lessening their carbon footprint. This episode showed how they were taking some pretty big steps in that direction!

Sure they are not 100% living Green but they ARE striving to make a difference. To me that is what counts, not that she served her kids lunch on paper plates!

I think that if everyone made even one change in how they live, ie using tote bags at the grocery store, eating organics, recycling etc, that would make a big difference!

BEE, Would you insult your father on national TV? That's what Kate did.

The Travel Mom said...

Are you kidding me? Just because Kate said that her father never completed tasks, that is an insult? I say that about both my husband and my father all the time! I kid, I mean, you really have to PUSH them, and it might take 3 years, but eventually it gets done...

Why are people LOOKING for things to gripe about with Kate? Because she said how she felt? She doesn't feel the need to change and is true to herself? I'm amazed that someone would even comment about something so petty and so not meant to be insulting........

If her father was in her life and she occasionally spoke fondly of him, it wouldn't have really mattered. However, I find it disrespectful that the only thing she can say about him is something negative.

I don't look for things to dislike about Kate. Quite the opposite. I want to find something admirable about her so I could understand why she has such a following. I don't know what her talent or appeal is.

I understand watching the cute kids is entertaining to some adults but what about those adults that have ulterior motives? I worry for the safety of the kids.

Why does Kate have a security guard but the kids are left with not-a-nanny? I saw a video some crazed fan took. It showed the kids playing in outside and there were no adults around.

Sorry for babbling but this is the first time ever you have posted one of my opinions.

Ok, everyone... Ready for a laugh? Someone posted this comment elsewhere. (And some people say we are stupid)
_______________
...blah, blah, blah..."but really, is it wise to put solar panels in Pennsylvania? Too many cloudy days, not enough direct sun, waste of an expensive, limited resource. If they really wanted to make an impact, ship those panels to San Diego or Florida where they can produce a lot more electricity."

More blah, blah, blah...

Unfortunately, those adults with ulterior motives have millions of kids pictures and videos posted on the internet to look at.

I am sure that the Gosselins take every possible precaution to protect their children.

BTW - Where can I go look at that video? The only video I have ever seen is the one where original audio that clearly identified them as non-fans (haters) was later dubbed with music.

All snark aside, truly, am I to understand that because this is a fan site, all healthy debate is to be discouraged? I mean I enjoy that blog concept of understanding a different point of view. If the mod really does delete any posts that are of an opposing point of view, then what's the point? I'm not challenging that per se, but I would hate to read all the posts, make a comment and then not be allowed in the "conversation".
I'm really just asking...

The Travel Mom said...

If a comment pisses me off or someone is just coming here to trash Kate, the comment is deleted. This is a fan site. And I'm sorry if I say it a million times. I'm not here trying to be the exact opposite of GWOP where I do not allow anyone to question the show, Kate or the family. But if your nasty, your gone. You can snark elsewhere.

ThePaginator~ YOU probably know when you cross the line, and you KNOW when something you say is going to get deleted. If you have something of substance to say I keep it. As I said on the other thread its my decision based on how the comment is worded whether or not something stays or goes.

Healthy discussion is ALWAYS encouraged.....

I don't think that what Kate said about her father was disrespectful at all. In fact Steve was the one who said something along the lines of "did your Dad not finish projects around the house when you were a kid". Kate merely said that she had a fear of house remodeling and then agreed to Steve's comment. It wasn't like she came out and trashed her dad! I suppose it is a matter of opinion!

Funny how people don't like it when Kate shows some real emotion or feeling and others don't like it when she is walled off and ridged! She can't win!

Pay no mind to all the negativity - the show is great and I can't wait for the next season. Kate is a go-getter - she seizes any opportunity for herself and her family. Those characteristics in a man would be admired but since she is a "mom" she takes heat. I don't understand why people hate a show so much but spend hours pouring over every episode for anything to pick apart. I understand Kate - I'll never understand the latter. Keep up the good work here - my first time posting. Great site!

This is my first post here on this site. I love this blog and follow it daily.

I met Kate in Raleigh yesterday. It was an awesome time and I am so glad I waited in line to get my book signed by her. There was a TLC camerguy with her filming, so maybe that footage will be shown on an upcoming show? Who knows?

I don't have any kids yet, but I relate to Kate in a lot of other ways. I love the show and all the children. I can't wait for the next Season to come out.

I totally agree with what DonnaVee said in her post! :) I got a lot of slack on my FB page, after I posted some photos of Kate from yesterday. I don't get those negative people anyhow - and I don't pay any mind to them.

Keep up the GREAT work here BabyMama! This site is great! :)

Fed Up....

Fed EX your whining arse back to Haterville.

You have too much time on your hands.....watching shows you despise, leaving negative comments on fan sites....whats next.....driving by the Gosselin house to see if the kids are being supervised to your satisfaction?

You need to focus on the positives in YOUR life. Your negativity is breeding more negativity for just YOU!

First time poster here, and I have to admit that I don't watch the show as much as I used to. It's just not the same anymore.

Anyway - I have noticed a lot of negative comments on here lately that always get deleted. A suggestion, BabyMama? Why don't you either 1) make this site a private site for fans or 2) moderate comments, i.e., comments are not published until they are approved by you - since that is what you are doing anyway. Just a suggestion.

The Travel Mom said...

Mikayla~ I appreciate your suggestions and have been mulling my options regarding the new site. As you may know this site will be shut soon in May to make room for the new site. There I will make a final decision regarding changes on how the site will be run.

And while I try to encourage fans to feel more comfortable posting comments on my site, many feel more comfortable e-mailing me directly. While that has been fine in the past my mail box has been out of control lately. I try to moderate comments the best I can. Problem was when I was holding them it took a long time for the comments to be published. I am only one person. So for now I give those the opportunity to speak their mind and if I don't like it, out it goes. Look for the new site soon.

Paginator,
Why do you assume Kate does not talk to her father? Do you know the Gosslins personally? Do you have their phones tapped? Just because they are not on the show, DOES NOT mean they do not speak.

BabyMama, this is your site and you are free to run it as you see fit. You don't owe the haters anything, least of all to be heard. I think we've all heard more than enough from them and speaking for myself and many of us fans, WHO CARES what they think anyway? They're nuts!

In a verbal interview, Jon said, "Kate's parents don't have anything to do with any of their grandchildren."

This is a lie because one of Kate's sisters had Thanksgiving pictures posted with her kids and her parents.

Kate's parents took care of the twins when Kate was on bed rest. Kate's dad's church donated items and kate refused them because they were used and didn't match. Kate told her sisters and brother to CHOSE between her and her parents. All but Kevin chose the parents.

Wow, paginator,

you know an awful lot about Kate's personal life to be someone who isn't a fan. You must have a lot of time on your hands to look up information like that. Your interest is making me skeptical about your stand on the family.

Anyway, I am curious as to what season 5 has to hold. can't wait to see new episodes.

A Real Housewife said...

Jon and Kate said, her parents have like 20 something grandkids and they do not take them all at once. In other words they can only handle a couple at a time. In the book, Multiple Blessing, she talk about 2 or 3 chapters of her parent caring for Cara and Mady and how they lived with them when Kate was released from the hospital.

But, I have never read anywhere, except the hate sites, that Kate refused clothing or she forced her siblings to make choices. One again, I ask you, do you know these people personally or what? You are making some pretty strong allegations and I am wondering were you got your information other than the hate site.
